President Trump expresses confidence in passing 'Big Beautiful Bill' as House prepares debate
The House of Representatives is expected to vote on the massive funding bill early Thursday morning, which will be the final hurdle in sending the legislation to the president's desk. The Senate passed the bill back to the House on Tuesday.
President Donald Trump on Wednesday night expressed confidence in the House Republican leadership's ability to pass his massive "One Big Beautiful Bill" and send it to his desk by Friday.
The House of Representatives is expected to vote on the massive funding bill early Thursday morning, which will be the final hurdle in sending the legislation to the president's desk. The Senate passed the bill back to the House on Tuesday.
Trump and House Speaker Mike Johnson spent all day Wednesday trying to rally enough votes to pass the legislation, after a handful of Republicans threatened to reject the bill. One of the opponents, Ohio GOP Rep. Warren Davidson, already flipped Wednesday.
"It looks like the House is ready to vote tonight," Trump posted to Truth Social. "We had GREAT conversations all day, and the Republican House Majority is UNITED, for the Good of our Country, delivering the Biggest Tax Cuts in History and MASSIVE Growth. Let’s go Republicans, and everyone else - MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!"
Members of the House Freedom Caucus have repeatedly rejected the legislation, including its Chairman Andy Harris who has pushed for Johnson not to rush the process.
“The House has a position, the Senate takes a position, and then we can come to an agreement somewhere in the middle,” Harris told the Washington Times. “That’s the way the process should work.”
Johnson and Trump can only afford to lose four Republican votes in order to pass the legislation. The House is currently voting on the rule for the reconciliation bill, which needs to pass in order to begin debate.
