Possible mass shooting at a Michigan graduation ceremony averted, sheriff says
Police found and recovered guns from under cars in the parking lot.
A potential mass shooting at a graduation ceremony in Michigan was thwarted as suspects search for a suspect, authorities say.
Authorities in the Great Lake state responded to a fight that broke out during the Arts and Technology Academy of Pontiac graduation held on Tuesday.
"A person approached our deputies and gave them information that a family member had told them that they had seen on Snapchat a threat to shoot up this graduation ceremony," Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard said during a Friday press conference.
Police found and recovered guns from under cars in the parking lot, according to ABC News.
The sheriff said that the authorities "probably prevented a mass shooting."
The police have arrested a 19-year-old suspect named Deahveon Shamar-James Whaley and are still looking for another suspect.
The second suspect authorities are searching for is Jamarion Jaryante Hardiman, 20.
The two suspects did not go to the academy, but were connected through friends and relatives.
